Joseph and Stephen Koppers founded Koppers Fabricators, Inc. in 1971. These two brothers had a dream of starting a company that would provide the service of ironworking, which was their passion. The company's first address was 614 Rollins Avenue, Capitol Heights, Maryland. This was the farm that Joseph and Stephen grew up on and were raised on with three brothers and one sister. In 1978 the company incorporated with Patricia C. Koppers, Joseph's wife, as President of the company. In 1980, the company moved to its current address, 5711 Marlboro Pike, Forestville, Maryland. During the lifetime of the company, many family members have worked for Koppers Fabricators and have helped maintain the business. Koppers Fabricators is also a member of the National Ornamental and Miscellaneous Metals Association (NOMMA). It has been a member of NOMMA since 1977. During this time, Joseph has served as a director on the board of the national chapter. For the local chapter, Joseph and Patricia have been very active and have held various positions. Joseph has been President for two years and Patricia has been President for one year. Joseph has also served as Secretary of the chapter. Joseph was also a very active member of the Crescent Cities Jay Cees for sixteen years. Currently, Stephen Koppers does not participate in the day to day working of the company, but still owns a portion of the stock. The backbone of the company is Joseph, who maintains and oversees almost every aspect of the corporation including estimation, bidding, production and installation. Patricia maintains the financial part of the business. She keeps the books, does the payroll, writes the checks, etc. At the present time, Koppers Fabricators concentrates on ornamental ironwork. It is a small company with no more than ten employees. Upon her graduation in May of 2001, Evelyn Koppers, daughter of Joseph and Patricia, also joined the company as a full-time employee. Koppers Fabricators prides itself on workmanship and quality.
